Applications
RockeTruck’s applications bring our products to life, delivering clean, innovative solutions to meet real-world energy demands.
Clean Power Generation
Clean power generation systems are essential to meeting our growing energy needs while protecting our environment and addressing climate change. Power generation using hydrogen fuel produces zero emissions of carbon or toxic pollutants and will become more cost-effective as the costs of hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen fuel itself decline. Compact, portable generating systems using clean fuels will help us evolve to a more resilient, distributed energy infrastructure, while also offering new options for powering zero-emission transportation systems.
Energy Storage
Energy storage systems are vital to zero-emission transportation and efficient use of renewable energy. Higher-capacity battery modules are powering our transition to electric vehicles. Stationary battery systems store energy from intermittent sources such as wind and solar when their production peaks, so the clean energy can be used later when demand peaks. Storing energy in the form of hydrogen and using fuel cells to convert this energy into electricity will power a new generation of longer range zero-emission vehicles.
Microgrids
Microgrids combine multiple clean power generation and energy storage resources to meet user power needs with reduced reliance on the utility power grid. Users with existing utility grid connections can use flexible microgrids to reduce their reliance on the utility grid when electricity costs peak and to provide backup power when the grid is down. Fixed microgrids also provide power to facilities or communities in remote areas, and mobile microgrids can meet the temporary power needs of mobile recreational or military power users.
Power Conversion
Power conversion devices are key to expanding our use of clean power generation and energy storage resources. Inverters convert DC power from batteries or fuel cells into the AC power used by electric vehicle motors and the electric distribution systems in most buildings. DC-to-DC converters adjust the DC output voltage of batteries and fuel cells to match the voltage requirements of these and other applications, including DC fast-charging of electric vehicle battery modules. Reducing the size and cost of inverters and DC-to-DC converters helps expand all these beneficial uses.
Power Distribution
Expanding our use of clean electric power requires development of new power distribution technologies to move this power around safely and efficiently. Higher-voltage DC power distribution, using solid-state transformers, can distribute electric power from the grid and accommodate integration of renewable energy sources such as solar power more efficiently than conventional AC distribution. Higher voltage power distribution is also essential to improving the efficiency of electric vehicles and charging them more rapidly.
Clean Transportation
Clean transportation is key to reducing greenhouse gases and toxic pollutants, so replacing vehicles that use fossil fuels with zero-emission vehicles powered by batteries and hydrogen is vitally important. New battery, fuel cell, and power conversion technologies are all key to making zero-emission vehicles more practical and affordable. Advanced electric power distribution and energy management controls are also important elements of this transition.
